Accountant
Purpose:
The Accountant will play a key role in supporting the company’s financial operations by ensuring accurate and up-to-date financial records. This role is responsible for maintaining financial integrity across all transactions, assisting with financial reporting, and supporting compliance with tax and regulatory requirements. The Accountant will also collaborate with internal teams to resolve accounting issues, improve financial processes, and support informed business decision-making.
Key responsibilities:
Maintain Financial Records: Ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial data by managing accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, completing bank reconciliations, daily cash-up reconciliations, and maintaining accurate general ledger entries.
Invoice and Expense Processing: Process and verify supplier invoices, employee expense claims, and customer payments to ensure compliance with internal policies and financial procedures. Maintain proper documentation and resolve any discrepancies in a timely manner.
Accounts Payable and Receivable Management: Monitor outstanding payments, follow up on overdue accounts, and ensure timely payment to suppliers. Maintain strong relationships with vendors and customers while ensuring accurate account balances.
Bank and Cash Reconciliations: Perform regular bank reconciliations and reconcile daily store cash-ups and card transactions to ensure all financial records are accurate and aligned with banking records.
VAT Returns & Financial Statements: Assist with the preparation and submission of VAT returns and support the preparation of monthly management accounts and financial statements, ensuring accurate and timely reporting.
Financial Reporting and Analysis: Prepare financial reports and assist with financial analysis to support management decision-making. Identify trends, discrepancies, or opportunities for improving financial efficiency.
Compliance and Controls: Ensure adherence to financial policies, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements. Maintain strong financial controls and support audit processes when required.
System Management: Maintain accurate financial data within accounting systems and ensure proper use of accounting tools and integrations to improve efficiency and accuracy.
Collaboration and Support: Work closely with internal teams including retail, operations, and management to resolve financial queries, support financial processes, and assist with ad-hoc finance projects.
Skills:
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
High level of attention to detail and accuracy
Strong organizational and time management abilities
Proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel)
Strong knowledge of accounting software and bookkeeping principles
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Qualification/s:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
Experience:
Experience using Xero and Dext accounting systems
Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, and reconciliations
Previous experience in retail or multi branch environments would be advantageous
Additional Information:
The position is full time (08:30 – 17:00)
Start Date: Immediately
Offices are based in Woodstock, Cape Town - Moving offices to Milnerton soon
